Football betting glossary
Twenty terms used across the site. Each definition links to a worked explanation and its sources; operator rules still govern settlement.
- Accumulator
- A bet that combines selections. A losing non-void leg normally loses the combination; the applicable bookmaker rules determine settlement. Explanation and sources.
- Leg
- One selection within an accumulator or multiple. Explanation and sources.
- Double / treble / fold
- Two selections make a double; three make a treble. A four-fold contains four selections. Explanation and sources.
- Decimal odds
- A price format that includes the returned stake. Multiply stake by decimal odds to calculate the total return on a winning, unadjusted bet. Explanation and sources.
- Total return
- The amount paid back by a settled winning cash bet, including the returned stake. It is not the same as profit. Explanation and sources.
- Profit / loss
- Total money returned minus all stakes counted. Promotional stakes can have different return rules. Explanation and sources.
- Implied probability
- The reciprocal of a simple decimal win price is its break-even threshold, not proof of the true chance. Explanation and sources.
- Overround
- The amount by which the reciprocal prices of all mutually exclusive outcomes exceed 100%. It is not a guaranteed realised profit margin. Explanation and sources.
- Estimated edge
- Offered decimal odds multiplied by estimated win probability, minus one. It depends on the probability estimate being appropriate. Explanation and sources.
- BTTS
- Both teams to score. BTTS Yes requires each team to score at least once in the specified scoring period. Explanation and sources.
- Goals line
- The threshold used for an over or under selection. Half-goal lines cannot be matched exactly by an integer goal total. Explanation and sources.
- Draw no bet
- A match-result market with draw-specific void or refund treatment. Read the bookmaker's market rules before combining it. Explanation and sources.
- Void
- A selection or bet cancelled under the applicable rules. An ordinary void acca leg is often removed or treated at 1.00, but special products can differ. Explanation and sources.
- Correlation
- A relationship between outcomes. If outcomes are not independent, multiplying standalone probabilities does not establish their joint chance. Explanation and sources.
- Bet builder
- A same-match combination that needs its own accepted bookmaker quote. Standalone market prices cannot simply be multiplied. Explanation and sources.
- Cash out
- An offered early settlement, subject to availability and operator conditions. It is not a guaranteed exit or a refund promise. Explanation and sources.
- Free bet / bonus credit
- Promotional value with conditions, not automatically withdrawable cash. Whether its stake is returned is material. Explanation and sources.
- Wagering requirement
- A stated amount of qualifying betting required by an offer. Check what amount the multiplier applies to and which bets count. Explanation and sources.
- Deposit limit
- A restriction on deposits during a defined period. Gross and net definitions differ; the operator's displayed definition matters. Explanation and sources.
- Unpriced
- On this site, no supported combined bookmaker quote is available. No combined return, edge or win-probability claim should be inferred. Explanation and sources.
